_______________
Quadratus Lumborum aka QL is one of the deeply set and lesser-known abdomen muscles. The tightening of QL is often blamed for back pain. What is a QL? Does a tight QL cause issues? Can a Tight QL be addressed? Does it contribute to back pain? Can a muscle so deeply set inside of the abdomen cause back pain?
You will get the answers to these and more, in today’s video, where we will learn what the QL is, where it is placed and how it may or may not affect back pain.

Idk, I’m not a doctor, but I do know that when my SI is having issues, chiro adjustment takes care of it. I kind of have to disagree that the SI joint is not supposed to move. If it’s not supposed to move, why is there a joint. The obvious function of a joint is motion. Just my thoughts.

I have mild rotary levoscoliosis, and recently fell down the stairs taking a huge hit to my right illiac crest which has caused me to have a nagging pressure like pain in my right glutes and back thigh, its going on a month now, will these exercises also help me or do i need different ones, or to modify these in some way?

After failed surgery l5 s1.. i lost all connection between my upper and lower part. I wasn't able to maintain the core connection hanging... trying to build this up again.. which is a real difficult task. I guess this happens with many after surgery.. never get rehabilitated.

So I noticed the core balance training you talk about back pain. Do you have a program that's tailored or customized for si joint dysfunction? Sort of like core balance for hypermobile si joint? I took PRP injection a few years ago and it may be a huge reason why I had zero pain for a long time (if it was the shot, it took about 8 months for it to take effect). Anyway, I have a really bad flare up and now I'm doing shockwave to break up nerve entrapment and heal the areas affected including my psoas and illac which have tendinopathy. I understand the concept at a 10000 foot level of stack and diagram breathing and core stability and psoas and all that. But I want the si joint ligamentopathy to heal. I want the ligaments to be strong again. Will core stability indirectly heel the ligaments or will I need to basically use these regenerative modalities like shockwave, prp or stem cell therapy to be pain free?

Are we meant to be keeping be keeping the can under pressure all day and Breathing into that pressure. Or is that a regular exercise that will progressively improve the tone of that area for the rest of that day?

I tried your technique and it WORKED like a charm. However, I do have the same issue on my right side(clicking/snapping) EVEN when I walk. It happens say 50% of the time on the right when I walk. when I try to push( = contract) with my right hams and glutes while walking, the snapping stops. NOTE: I do NOT have any pain in the SI joint when walking or other times. So my question is - (1) Is the snapping due to some tendon slipping across a bone or is the joint themselves moving? (2) Given your technique in this video works can you explain what makes this work? I am trying to see if your technique can be utilized when walking and eventually if root cause is know, fix it for good. Thank you for the great videos. A real life saver

Aaah, this makes sense. All the YT exercises only made mine worse, they are usually presented as a quick fix too which as explained here is an impossible concept. The body is a machine, if it stops working properly then the cause has to be identified before what is required to fix it can be worked out.

Hey! I have to tell you what is helping my S I pain after 2 yrs: walking on a Matrix self powered treadmill with resistance, fwds and bkwds. They have one at my gym. It has a belt you lean into that encourages you to hold your pelvis level and not sway. I hope you can try it as I know you suffer from SI pain also. Cheers & thanks.

Wonderful explanation. I am having a worst pain after many years suffering this problem. Manipulación bad for me. One of the doctors was very upset because l did not want that therapy. I was having a shot every year or less for the last 5 years . I sprained my ankle last year and now a shot does not last long. I will try these exercises . Thanks so much.

I thought that decompression wasn’t a goal because it’s short-lived and doesn’t change after gravity re-hits. What is the major benefit to this if someone is having low back pain and or should a person not do this with sprained ligaments in the back? Is this for after a person is healed? Thank.

The main problem for me when sitting on the floor is, I get into my head too much when it’s time to get up and I end up, hurting my back straining to get up. and I saw some of the tricks like the bear style stand, but that sometimes hurts, as well. Is there a good technique for getting up off the floor that doesn’t involve that Ben- over, hands-on-the-ground bear style? Thank you!!

Just found your videos! I have a Spondy at L4-L5. What about sleeping on my back? I sleep on my back with legs elevated over a couple of pillows. It is most comfortable but am I potentially aggravating my spondy by sleeping with a flat back? My pain is lowest to none when I get out of bed in the morning.

These videos are incredibly helpful! Thank you. I complained to my doctor about hip pain (because I thought I felt it in my ileac crest). She had an x-ray done, diagnosed me with anterior spondy and disc degeneration, and sent me to a PT who had me doing strengthening exercises but also stretches. After the first session I told the PT I could tell that the stretches made the pain worse. She told me just to warm up first...so I quit going. This, this is exactly what I need. Thank you!

Oh my gosh. This is my 2nd video of yours, watching on the SI joint. Only 4 days, I have stopped doing the Chiropractic SI adjustment, all the daily pigeon stretches, the hip flexor stretches and amazingly am getting relief! I am starting these stretches and seeing relief from pain. I am so hopeful. Just a week ago after increasing my stretches with the pain worsening, I thought I would be searching for SI specialist to fuse my loose right side joint. Now, 4 days later with NO pain, I am see a different path. Your advice is different and just what this 67 year old body, whom carried 4 children, 6+ grandchildren on her right hip needed!

Great Vids doc. What do you recommend for Pelvic Floor Therapy? A recnt test reveals that I have poor pelvic floor muscles which is affecting defacation ? I have multiple sites of mild to moderate Stenosis in my Lumbar and Cervcial Spines, including L2, L3 disc Bulges and L5-S1 Spondylioethesis as well as significant DDD throughout my spine. And Dextroscoliosis of 25 Degrees which I beleive (with varying doctor opinions) was exaccerbated by a Leg Length Discrepancy since 1966 after a fractured right Femur at age 15. I'm 72 now, male, retired and suffer with numerous effects of Spondy in my spine and facet Joints wreaking havoc with my Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems. The Joint / Spine stiffness is the Worst Part of all of this!!

I've been doing spinal decompression on bar dips or between treadmills at the gym, where I swing my legs like walking in the air (making an X with my feet), for only 10-20 seconds (not minutes). The air walking mildly swivels the lumbar, and provides wonderful relief, including facet joint 'reset', muscle relax, and relief of lumbar plexus hydrostatic pressure. I probably do it a few times throughout the day as needed. I have an L4-5 fusion now, and did NOT do any hanging for months after the surgery.
